Helping those in need!

I never imagined that I would ever have to stay up all night pulling a on-on-one watch to help save a life! You see, my nephew has a  serious heroin addiction problem. I knew he was getting into trouble with drugs and alcohol but nothing like what I recently saw! He finally seems ready and willing to get the help he needs.

His parents asked if I would watch him for a couple of days while they research the different rehabs in Utah as they learned that Utah is one of America’s capitol for substance abuse treatment! They eventually found a fitting drug rehab center that will meet his emotional, physical, spiritual and psychological needs on a intimate and personal level.

I thought I had seen it all but not true after this experience. I have never experienced as a first hand witness the illnesses associated with withdrawal and cravings. My nephew was literally crawling out of his skin. Therefore he was attempting to ditch me multiple times throughout the night. I was given the order to not let him out of my sight no matter what and to even stay close to the door even while he is going to the bathroom!

I feel like a rookie turned veteran after going through this horrid experience. I would not wish this upon my greatest enemy. One thing is for sure, I would do it all over again if it means saving a life of a loved one or even a stranger for that matter. I had no idea just how low the depths of manipulation an addict will go to get what they want.

I decided to put down the portable dvd cap for one evening and to raise awareness for all that the disease of addiction is absolutely very real! Please get professional help if you know someone in need of drug or alcohol rehab help! It is never too late! On a different note, stay tuned as I will report on the progress of my nephew!

Where can I buy a portable dvd player?

Do you have a favorite place to shop?  Do you usually do online research before hitting the stores to buy?  Do you just buy everything online? This blog was started because I recently lost my new 10″ Samsung portable dvd player while on a family trip visiting my relatives in Flower Mound, Texas. We thought it would be nice for our little children (cousins) to go to “Six Flags Over Texas” while visiting. To make the journey even more interesting, we decided to be chauffeured by a limo company to focus on each other, rather than the stop and go traffic we were warned about. Needless to say, you probably know by now where this story is going. Yes, that’s right, one of the children accidentally left the portable dvd player in the limousine once we arrived. I think we were all so excited to get out and explore the park that we forgot to look for any items left behind.

We called up the limo company about 13 hours later once we realized it was missing and they said they would look around and get back to us. At first they said they did not see it…apparently the color back blends in really well in the back of a stretch limo. Long story short I started searching online for another portable dvd player and a couple days later the limo company called back and said they found it! I was excited that they did, but I already was in the process of obtaining another one. I decided to let my brother in Flower Mound keep it and thought that as I was researching different portable dvd players, I would share some of my results with you all.

Perfect gift?

I was wondering if the portable DVD player is considered a perfect gift for a birthday or anniversary or for a Christmas gift or not? I was also wondering if it is not the best idea for any of those occasions, then what is a good celebratory time to give or receive a portable DVD player? Is there really a perfect time to ever give a portable DVD player? So many variations to these particular questions.

I also sometimes wonder if I need to give up the dream altogether? I am so scared that the portable DVD player is almost if not already becoming extinct? I suppose if I can’t beat them then it is best to join them. So if I were to finally surrender to this concept, what would I be transferring to? Perhaps this is a great topic I should further expound upon in the upcoming blogs I write. I really do need to take some time to research online and in electronic stores and to see what all of the new and improved video/TV/CD/DVD options are these days!

Perhaps at bare minimum, I can buy a whole lot of portable DVD’s at a huge marked down price? Either way I believe I can only benefit when it comes to learning more about the latest portable dvd trends. As always I openly welcome any ideas or comments that help bring about a higher awareness of what this current or past topics I have blogged about. Football Viewing Pleasure

I was curious how many of you have a portable DVD/TV/Wi-Fi capable player? Does it even exist? I am wondering if it is the wave of the future or if I should give up on my dreams of the ultimate portable dvd player. I was sitting here thinking that this would make my college game day more fun and exciting and enjoyable as I am out and about running errands. I suppose the only difference between this and a smart phone is the ability to play DVD’s and a much larger screen.

I love to watch college football but seem to be too busy to sit down and enjoy a full game without doing something productive. I usually feel guilty as well. So I find myself doing something simultaneously and feel justified in what I am doing but soon realize that when I try to double up on efforts and bee productive and lazy at the same time it just does not work. I end up giving in to lazy and only get half as much accomplished as I set out to do.

Moral of the story here is that we just need to prioritize what matters most and then do everything in  your power to get eh job done. Thank goodness that TIVO was invented. I am now able to do what needs to be done and watch the game when all of my activities are accomplished first. Speaking of which I need to make more time for my family so with that said I am going to spend some time with them and help out with the chores and enjoy some good ole’ fashion college football game day!

Please leave a comment or question if you have any. Also let me know if anyone out there has access to or knowledge of the wonder portable dvd player out there?

What is the future of portable players

With all of the technology rapidly changing around us almost on a daily basis, at least it seems to be this way. What is the future of portable dvd players. Are they going to be obsolete or is there always going to be a need for them? Apple, Inc. seems to think yes, the portable dvd player is obsolete. My proof with this is that even though it is a far stretch it is still a sign. Their newer model MacBooks from 2015 forward do not even have a slot for a disc drive anymore. With Apple being at the forefront of current technology they seem to believe this is the way of the future. Although they do offer an attachment for their MacBooks as an external disc drive but then again this drive I speak of does not allow any disc burning or copying as wells any dvd capabilities.

Just when you think that there might still be some hope for the dvd disc drive with Apple (but barely hanging by a thread) they destroy all hopes and dreams by not allowing any burning or disc playing functions. Really all it is for is reading data and putting it onto your desktop. Apparently the world of MP3 and MP4’s is the new way of the future. With the click of a mouse or an “enter” button, you can have the world of music and movies at your fingertips. Between Amazon and Netflix the portable dvd player is being forced to become the minivan poster child.

I for one do not like this at all, but I must surrender to the almighty technology Gods. What they say…goes! This is where belief meets reality and the reality of it all is that the portable dvd player is about to become extinct and hang out in the graveyard with the VCR player, the 8-track, the cassette player, as well as some of the other short lived kooky inventions such as the mini disc, the walk-man, the laser disc and so on. Having said all this, it does make you wonder if the bluray is going to stand the test of time or join the others in the boneyard? Feel free to comment or ask any questions on your mind.

Portable or not?

Do you have a built in DVD player in your vehicle?  Maybe you are like me and are old school and do not have a built in DVD player in your van or SUV.  My parents recently got a newer van and the grandkids, especially my children, love to ride with Nana and Papa!  My kids think it is the coolest thing ever.  Such is the life being able to ride and watch a movie.  Nana and Papa sure like to spoil our kids and not just our kids, all of the grandchildren for that matter.

It has come in handy for my parents as they have taken some of the grandchildren on road trips.  At times, I have wished we were not so old school so that our kids would be entertained while we take road trips.  We have done some road trips recently.  Some were just day trips, looking at land to buy but nevertheless it would have been nice to have a portable DVD player or a built in one.  Our van is a 2009 Toyota Sienna and it is the CE model so it has no fancy upgrades.

At the same time our kids do pretty good while on the road.  They are all separated, two sit in the bucket seats and our oldest sits in the back by her lonesome on the bench.  There have been a few times that I wished we had some form of DVD player entertainment for them but for the most part I feel like they need a break from TV and movies as they get enough of that when we are at home.

Today, they have innotabs and iPads (and other technology), which we have both but we don’t have any movies downloaded on them.  We just have games on them and that keeps the older two kids entertained for a little while at least.  I have tried to keep my children away from devices because as I watch others and their children, I don’t want that for my kids.  No interaction just staring at their devices for hours.  Anyway, that is another post in and of itself.

Back to portable or not….which do you prefer and why?  I think it’s more convenient to have a built in DVD player that way all you have to remember to take with you is the DVDs.  It is also easier to operate because it is already set up for you and ready to go.  Portable DVD players can be nice because you can take it out of the vehicle and entertain elsewhere if needs be.  So I guess, there are pros and cons to both.

Best Sellers

What kind of portable DVD player do you own? Here is a little video recommending the best of the best with a count down from 10 to 1!

So the best seller is Sylvania Portable DVD Player according to this youtuber. Do you agree? If you have a portable DVD player and it has been reliable and you are happy with yours let me know your thoughts.

Years ago my spouse won a portable DVD player from a work party. She was excited and it worked at first. It did not last very long before it started having problems. I did not have the patience to try and figure out what was wrong with it. I do not remember the brand of portable dvd player but it was sad that it did not get used that much and did not last more than a year or two with only adults using it and controlling it. It must have been a no name brand for me to not remember it or for it to not even last very lone.

Do you do your due diligence and look at consumer reports for things before buying them? If you already do, awesome! If you do not, it definitely should be something to consider doing. One site I looked at said the Sylvania Portable DVD player is the best bang for your buck but Sony 9″ Portable DVD Player is the best of the best. Another site said the Sony was sixth on the list and Sylvania came in at number one. From my research Sylvania seems to make a great portable DVD player. So with that being said, do some research to find out which is the best of the best and while you are at it try to get the best bang for your buck! Thanks for stopping by my blog! I hope you return soon!

On The Go

Hi!  I am submitting this blog as a guest/affiliate writer for my friend Henry.  My name is Sally and I was thrilled to share a bit on the topic of portable dvd players and the practical use they still have in this day and age.

Have you ever become so dependent on something that if it breaks and you don’t replace it right away, it affects your day and your life?  Well, this happened to our family.  The day our portable dvd player broke will be a day that we will never forget, especially my kids.  We have had a portable dvd player in our van for over a year now and every time my kids are riding with me they ask to watch a movie.  My kids are still young, so it is usually a disney movie that they ask to watch.  They are totally obsessed with watching movies in the van as we go around town running errands that when our portable dvd player broke it was torture for me and miserable for them.  It was torture for me because they were constantly fighting and miserable for them because they had become so hooked to watching movies every time we went anywhere in the van that they were so disappointed when it broke.  It took us a few weeks to get a new one and when we finally did, it was like we were going to Disney Land or something.  My kids were so happy and they started getting along better as well!

Can you relate?  Do you have a portable dvd player in your vehicle?  Do you always turn it on for your kids to keep them entertained…even if you are just running around town doing errands?  What has your experience been with portable dvd players?  Thanks for reading my post about using portable dvd players on the go!  Please leave a message and share with me and Henry about your experiences with portable dvd players or using them on the go.

Road Trip

Can you imagine going on a road trip without a portable dvd player? Me neither! I believe these little bad boys are extremely underestimated even today. That is why this blog was established to talk about these but also to just talk about life as well. Technology and love seem so intertwined these days you just can not have one without the other anymore. At least that is what is seems like to me. This topic alone deserves to be blogged about on a later occasion. Please help remind us that the discussion on technology, where it is heading as well as leading us as society as a whole for a later date.

Now, back to the headline and main purpose of the whole blog thread. I am curious how many of you out there have had an extensive amount of miles driven on a road trip both with and without a portable dvd player? Now after comparing the two which is better? Well if you enjoy a quiet time able to finally slow things down and talk to one another it is a no brainer. Equally, if you do not have young children again it might be nice to just visit with each other. However, if you do have children and they are young, I am willing to bet you absolutely enjoyed the power and freedom a portable DVD player provided? If you had the headphones working, even more of a bonus! The only downfall is if you become really bored and drained with hearing the same Disney movie played over and over for the next 8-12 hours.

The next question I have is what is the better choice between the portable dvd players. More in particular the built in upgrade on minivans and SUV’s or the actual hand held compatible/portable dvd player? Both have their advantages as well as disadvantages. The portable dvd player built in to the car will essentially never run out of a power source. At the same time, because it is built in and if it ever breaks down, the car industry has a monopoly on jacking up the rates and forcing you to go through their repair services. So with owning a hand held portable DVD player, you can take it out of the car and anywhere you would prefer. This reminds me of yet another future blog when I had a small 4X8 inch Polaroid portable dvd player that I used for a first date with my now wife of 8 years. I personally believe the best solution to deciding which is best is to own at least one of each. That way you do not have to go without any of the pro’s both of them bring to the table.

I look forward to sharing some personal stories that involve portable dvd players, life and technology of course. So come back soon and see what else has been updated on a regular basis. Don’t forget to get involved and comment and share this with your friends and family. Have a wonderful day and thanks for your time. We will see you really soon!

Welcome to our new and improved blog!

Hello everyone. We are thrilled to introduce to you our new and improved website. Visit us daily for more content rich material as we plan on getting back in the saddle again as the premier portable DVD players guide! Well that day has come now as some free time was set aside to share of the latest happenings in regards to www.portable-dvd-players-guide.com. What has been happening more and more is the automobile industry has been including built-in dvd players into their cars as a standard feature anymore. So with this happening we can only deduct that there is still a huge need and desire from the consumers to have their portable dvd technology right there beside them wherever they may go. The problem is that it is limited to its probability being built in to the automobile.

One simple solution would be to allow the dvd player to detach from the ceiling of the car’s roof. That might still be a technology far away though, or maybe even obsolete the way technology changes so rapidly. Point in case, remember the beeper or a voicemail machine, or ever better the VHS videos for a VCR. What I am trying to get at is this. People love their movies and love to watch them on the go. So long as this is the case, there will always be a need for Portable DVD Players Guide on the world wide web. Granted we have made a dramatic change to our interface and services we provide, but one thing remains. Our dedication to our audience and provision of quality based and current information and reviews on the latest and greatest products. We also plan on throwing in a few home brewed stories of our own and wouldn’t be opposed to receiving some of your own.

At first glance it seems weird to create a whole blog/website that is dedicated just to portable dvd players, however, stranger things have happened. We are excited and anxious to hear back from you as well as to learn how we can improve and better serve you. We would prefer to be more hands on with your requests and comments instead of spending countless hours in writing step by step guides for each and every different dvd players that are portable. So please feel free to chime in and ask away as we are the leading experts when it comes to helping you with any type of portable dvd player.
